Description of the process of knitting a simple children's hat with knitting needles:

To knit, we need to be able to knit 2 basic patterns:

Edge loops - the first one is removed, the last one is knitted purlwise.
First, we knit a sample of elastic and stockinette stitch - approximately 10*10 cm in size. We find out our knitting density and after that we start knitting.
With our knitting density and thread thickness, we cast on 90 loops with edge stitches. The number of loops without edge loops should be divisible by 4. Leave a larger tail of the thread so that in the future, without attaching a new thread, you can make a back seam.
We knit 4 cm with a 2x2 elastic band - that’s 14 rows.


Next, we knit the fabric of the required height using stockinette stitch. You can measure either directly on the child’s head from the crown to the eyebrows 1.5-2 cm higher, as you prefer. Or take any child’s hat and measure it. Or another option - divide the head circumference by 3 and add 3.
We knitted with stockinette stitch 15-16 cm, i.e. the total height of the hat was 19-20cm.


We close the loops. Now, with the remaining tail at the beginning of knitting, carefully sew the side of the hat along the front side with a knitted seam. Now all that remains is to make the top seam, here you will have to attach a new thread, it is better to take it from a skein, then the seam will be as invisible as the back one. We hide all the threads.

5. Both canvases that you made so that your baby’s ears do not freeze must be combined in the twenty-seventh row into one canvas. First you need to knit thirty-three loops, then pick up ten new loops on the knitting needles and knit thirty-three loops again.
6. The knitting method you need to use is garter stitch with a twist. Don't forget to add stitches when you come across the fourth knit row. It turns out that you will add eight loops in total. And you have eighty-four stitches left on the knitting needles.
7. After this, the resulting ears and forehead line are connected. You must knit eighty-four stitches, then pick up sixteen stitches and join everything together.
8. After this, proceed to circular knitting. There should be one hundred stitches on the knitting needles. You will need to knit from twenty-six to thirty-four rows.
9. Now you need to make decreases. You need to divide your 100 stitches into an equal number of sections.
