Baby blanket crocheted from squares. Knitted blankets for newborns. Crocheting a simple baby blanket

Good afternoon friends!

Nowadays you can find quite a lot of patterns and patterns for knitting children's blankets. But this is the first time I’ve met this one in person. A crochet baby blanket for beginners will be especially easy to knit, because it uses a very simple pattern and, mind you, no motifs! Many people will like this fact; I know that not everyone likes to sew motifs.

The blanket is made using the fillet technique and is knitted as a whole fabric. The main beauty is given by the delicate blue color, and the slightly openwork pattern looks wonderful.

Selection of yarn for a blanket and calculation

Take skeins of 50 grams/150 m. You will need about 20 of them or a little less. It is impossible to say the exact quantity, let there be more, and if there is any left, you can knit both booties and a hat for the baby.

Choose the color of the yarn according to your taste and the sex of the child, for example, delicate pink for girls or blue like this one for boys.

I never recommend a specific hook number; it should always be selected according to the density of your knitting. For the specified yarn of medium thickness, numbers 1.7 - 2 - 2, 5 may be suitable.

Try crocheting samples with different hooks and determine which option looks best.

Depending on their purpose, children's blankets are knitted in sizes 100x100 or 110x140 cm.

There is no need to calculate the required number of loops based on the pattern; then I will tell you how many loops to cast on and how to crochet a baby blanket for beginners.

Crochet blanket pattern

In the source I found, the pattern for knitting a children's blanket for beginners turned out to be somewhat incorrect and did not correspond to the pattern of the blanket; I discovered this when I tried to knit the sample.

Therefore, I made adjustments and drew the diagram myself. This was my first time doing this, and it may have turned out a little uneven. But that’s not the point; the main thing is that the diagram is understandable. And it is so simple that any novice needlewoman can figure it out.

Description of crocheting a baby blanket for beginners

We start knitting a baby blanket with a set of air loops. You need to dial a chain approximately 100 (110) cm long.

In this case, the number of loops should be a multiple of 30 (the number of loops of one repeat - a repeating part of the pattern) + 4 more loops for the edge of the product.

Now we set aside the started ball of yarn (there is no need to break the thread) and return to the beginning of knitting the chain. We attach a thread from another ball and knit the first row with it. When knitting in this way, having reached the end of the row, we will understand how many more loops are needed and simply knit the chain to the desired size.

We knit the blanket according to the pattern using double crochets and chain stitches between them. At the beginning of each row, instead of a column, you need to dial 3 VPs necessary to lift the row.

The first rows will require special care and accurate counting, and then knitting will become easier.

How to crochet a baby blanket

For beginners, a very convenient and again simple blanket tying scheme is used.

First, we tie the finished blanket with two rows of double crochets. In the corners, to make them even, knit three stitches from one loop.

And the last row is a somewhat unusual, but interesting version of the binding - 3C1H above each arch and 4 VPs between them.

Such an air border is obtained.

Look at other options, as well as one that is perfect for children's blankets.

Crocheting children's blankets is sometimes not so difficult as it is difficult to choose a good pattern and theme of the blanket, so that it is exactly a children's thing that the child will love for many years, and at the same time the blanket should be warm, soft, and suitable for the interior of the children's room . In today's selection you will find the best ideas for original children's blankets that you can crochet!

The easiest way (and, by the way, probably the fastest) to knit an interesting blanket for a baby is to take unusual yarn, for example, Pompom yarn. It is perfect even for babies, because this yarn is soft and warm.

The next most popular method is to choose an unusual pattern :) For a large canvas, the zigzag pattern is excellent, plus it allows you to “play” with color.

A very cool way to knit a blanket from motifs is to imagine each monochromatic motif in the form of a “pixel”, and make some simple pattern from such “pixels”. The plan for the future blanket can be drawn up literally on a piece of notebook paper, count the number of squares of each color, and connect the motifs in accordance with this scheme.

blankets with a “pixelated” pattern of plain square motifs

Another fairly simple but cute way to decorate a blanket and add some personality to it is with appliqués. These could be some kind of plot things, like little animals, boats, hearts, flowers, etc., or just bright pom-poms.

If you have time to get confused, you can choose a very non-standard solution - a fabric made of strips formed by rings, sequentially knitted in a “chain”. Due to the fact that the rings can vary in color, it will turn out very bright and unusual.

To create colored rows, you can do it even simpler - knit a blanket with a “tulips” pattern; by the way, it is suitable both for large canvases and for decorating the edge of a plain girl’s blouse, for example.

There are other ways to knit a pattern in rows, for example, these “convex” patterns (I would call them 3D). Knitting them is quite tedious, but the result is simply amazing, and there is a large selection - bees, butterflies, roses, as well as, for example, those formed during the work - beautiful not only in their appearance, but also in the fact that they will never fall off like sewn-on elements .

If you are knitting a blanket for a girl, then you have hundreds of thousands of patterns with and from flowers in your arsenal!

Any symmetrical flower motif, based on a square or polygon, is suitable as a motif. If the motif itself is simple, then correctly selected colors will “draw” the flowers, and convex flowers will look like in a clearing!

The bumps can be made not only from flowers, but simply “bumps” look very cool, and besides, due to such a pattern, the blanket will be thicker and warmer.

bright plaid with cone pattern

By the way, if you impose multi-colored motifs with bumps, you can imitate Lego pieces; boys will especially like this blanket :) In general, experiment with motifs, the order of connection and the plot. A blanket knitted from completely different, non-repeating square motifs can become not only a warm accessory, but also an educational rug; your baby will study such a blanket with great interest!

Blankets with geometric patterns do not always seem very childish, however, oddly enough, they capture the attention of even the smallest crumbs, due to the contrasting colors.

Each blanket has its own “trick”. You can show all the beauty “in person”, or you can decorate a plain blanket and at the same time insulate it with an interesting lining from the inside.

Probably the cutest baby blankets are those with little animals on them. And there are many ways here too. However, most of them are crocheted blankets from motifs, but there are millions of variations of these motifs))). Here, for example, are the bunnie motifs :)

The most popular motifs are bear cubs, owlets and bunnies, but in fact, the list doesn’t end there - you can knit piglets, foxes, frogs, raccoons and hippos))) it’s also quite easy to knit snowmen, for example, for a New Year’s blanket .

And some more blankets with animalistic motifs:

Animals based on motifs can also be knitted using the jacquard method. Well, besides animals, you can imitate natural scenes simply by combining motifs of certain colors. In this way you can imitate honeycombs, turtle shells, fish scales, etc.

For the bravest ones, you can knit a blanket in the form of one huge motif with a jacquard pattern)))

Good luck with your knitting, and many new warm, cozy, bright, beautiful and unusual blankets for your children! 🙂

Some craftswomen prefer to knit large items only with crochet, since the peculiarity of this method allows them to achieve beautiful openwork patterns on blankets, and the delicate, almost jewelry-like work is very much to the liking of those who like to create beautiful things from details.

Crocheted blankets will perfectly warm adults and small children, the main thing is to choose the right yarn. Another important function of blankets is to decorate the home and create the right mood. All this directly depends on the shape and method of crocheting, which we will look at in detail in this article.

Crocheting a blanket with patterns and descriptions

There are a huge variety of crocheted blankets, as are the styles of knitting these warming blankets. Even the simplest patterns look interesting on blankets, and are sure to be associated with one’s father’s home, warmth and care.

But you won’t surprise experienced needlewomen with simple patterns; interesting openwork motifs, patchwork-style blankets of incredible complexity and beauty, thin and delicate bedspreads for newborns, which are so interesting to pore over, have been invented for them. In this type of needlework there is a job for every interest and request. But let's start learning from the basics - the simplest patterns and patterns for crocheting blankets.

Master class for beginners

In any business you have to start somewhere to learn. And to learn how to crochet a blanket, a master class for beginners is ideal. This blanket, completely made in the “granny square” style, will delight both adults and children. Let's look at how to knit it using step-by-step instructions as an example.

Popular articles:

Tools:

  • Yarn (in this case bright green, yellow and brown);
  • Hook;
  • Needle.

Abbreviations for knitting pattern:

  • VP - air loop;
  • RLS - single crochet;
  • CCH - double crochet;
  • SS - connecting column.

Work progress with step-by-step photos:

You need to start knitting with the main color of the blanket. We close six loops into a ring, then make three VPs and knit two more Dcs into a ring. We make two VPs (photo 1). After this, we crochet three DCs into a ring and make two VPs. We repeat two more times, resulting in a square being knitted (photo 2).

After this, we make three VPs (this is the first CCH) and in the corner in the arch we will make three CCHs, two VPs and again three CCHs (photo 1). We will knit this into the remaining arches. We will finish the last one with two dc and sl st (remember that the first stitch at the very beginning was knitted in the form of three VPs) (photo 2).

We knit a new row of squares and make three VPs from the arch in which we have the hook. We knit two dcs into it. Next we move on to the corner. And we knit into it everything that we knitted in the previous row: three DCs, two VPs and three DCs (photo 1). In the next arch we simply knit three DCs. And so on in a circle (photo 2).

In the corners you will always need to knit the same thing. And in the arches that are located on the sides of the square, we always simply knit three DCs. As a result it turns out to be a so-called granny square. We knit several rows for the desired size of the blanket. And, completing the granny square, we will change the color of the thread to yellow (photo 1). We knit two rows in yellow. And one more row in green. And then we’ll tie the edges. We will knit seven sc in one arch, and one sc in the other. And so we alternate the binding throughout the blanket (photo 2). Let's finish tying it in green. We will make three VPs and knit one sc in each stitch (photo 3).

Plaid decoration

To decorate this simple, but undoubtedly cute blanket, you can crochet a small decorative element, for example, a butterfly. This is how you can create it:

  1. We knit five VPs and close them into a ring. Next we knit three VPs and another DC. We make two VPs. And two more CCHs. In total we need to knit this eight times. That is, we will get sixteen CCHs.
  2. Let's move on to the arch from the VP. SS We knit three VPs and perform two DCs here. We perform three VPs and under the same chain we knit three CCHs. This is how we knit under all the arches from VP.
  3. Now let's attach the brown yarn. We knit six DCs under the VP chain. We make one VP and here we perform six more CCHs. We skip the bottom three dcs and knit a sc.
  4. And in the next chain we knit everything the same as we knitted before.
  5. We tie our butterfly with yellow yarn. We knit one sc in the six underlying stitches and one sc under the VP. We make picot from three VPs. And so we tie the whole butterfly.
  6. Fold it in half and secure it with a brown VP chain. Now you can sew it to one of the corners of the finished blanket.

Work progress and knitting pattern

Using white yarn we knit the initial chain of 145 VP.

Base range: 1 dc in 3 ch from the hook, 1 dc in each ch to the end, 144 loops are knitted. 1st row: 2 VP for lifting, *relief. Art. around stitch of previous row, dc in dc of previous row, repeat from * to last stitch, 1 rib. Art. around the loop of the previous row.

Let's turn the work around.

Next we knit 7 rows according to the pattern. Cut the thread (A). We knit thread (B) according to the pattern of 8 rows. Cut the thread (B). Next, knit 8 rows using thread (A) according to the pattern. Repeat the stripes until 96 cm are knitted.

Harness

To tie the edge of the finished product, use thread in color (B).

Video lesson

For beginning needlewomen, it is always better to first watch several video instructions on how to work with a crochet hook, especially when it comes to such an important task as a blanket for a newborn baby.

Video “crocheted blanket for a newborn”:

A baby blanket is a functional and irreplaceable thing in a family with a newborn. This blanket will be useful at home in a crib, in a stroller on the street, at discharge or at a clinic appointment. And when the baby grows out of the blanket, you can use the product as a play mat. If your mother or grandmother has mastered knitting, then you can try making a blanket with your own hands using a crochet hook.

Children's blankets made from motifs

Beautiful and unusual models are obtained from motifs (squares). In addition, it is difficult for beginners to crochet a large, bulky item; it is much easier to make several small motifs and combine them into a single fabric.

Blanket for a newborn using the Granny Square technique

The good thing about this product is that it is not necessary to buy many skeins of new yarn; you can use the balls that are left over from previous projects. The more different colors, the brighter and more interesting the model will be.

Such a beautiful and bright blanket will decorate any nursery.

Materials

  • Threads of different colors, but of the same thickness and fiber structure - 1800 g (for a blanket with dimensions 110 cm x 130 cm). For a newborn, you can make a smaller model, but it’s better to work hard and knit a blanket “for growth” so that it will last the baby more than one year.
  • Crochet hook No. 3.5-4.
  • Sewing needle, scissors.

How to knit "Granny Square"

Knitting patterns can be used in different ways, but for beginners it is better to choose simple motifs that will definitely not cause difficulties.

Scheme "Granny Square"

Description

Work begins with an air loop (you will need 4 of them).

The next row is knitted from 5 tbsp. double crochet +2 tbsp. double crochet loop of the first row + 2 air. loops + 2 tbsp. with a double crochet in the second air. loop + 2 double crochets. We knit the combination 4 times.

To join the knitting and make the seam invisible, you need to use a sewing needle.

The first square is ready.

All subsequent squares are knitted in exactly the same way. For a blanket measuring 110 cm x 130 cm you will need 221 pieces.

To connect the squares together, use this method:

When all the blanks are sewn together, the blanket can be considered ready.

This is such a fun blanket for a baby

For knitting, you can also use this simple pattern:

Grandmother's square (option 2)

Using this scheme, you get the following squares:

Crocheted children's multi-colored blanket from squares

The pattern is even easier to knit than from the “Granny Square” motifs. No diagram required. Squares of the required size are simply knitted with single crochets. For a blanket measuring 125 cm x 125 cm you will need 100 pieces. squares with a side of 12.5 cm.

Another bright blanket option for a baby

Materials

  • Various yarns – 1500 g.
  • Hook No. 4.

Note: If the yarn is not uniform in thickness, then you need to focus on the length and width of the square; the number of loops may be different. Also, the hook number may be different for thin and thick yarn.

Description

  1. First the squares are knitted. The quantity can be as in the master class; if you need a larger or smaller blanket, then the number of motifs changes.
  2. Then you need to connect the squares together with a hook or needle in any usual way.

In this case, this method of crocheting squares was used:

Materials

  • Yarn of different colors, but the same structure - 1500 g.
  • Hook No. 3.
  • Hook No. 6.5-7.
  • Sewing needle.

Description

1. The basis of the product is 9 or more squares, which are knitted with a “loin mesh” pattern. The pattern is simple and is done with double crochets, alternating with air loops. At the beginning of each row, 3 air movements are made. lifting loops. You will need to knit 9 squares with a width of 40 cm for a product with dimensions of approximately 125 cm x 125 cm.

The basis of the work is squares from “loin mesh”

2. To imitate a woven fabric, you will need to pass threads or cords knitted from air through the holes in the base of a contrasting color. loops The length of the cords depends on the chosen pattern; it is better to measure the pattern in advance, pinning the cords with pins.

Outlining the future drawing

3. When making a design, the beginning of the thread or cord must be secured with a sewing needle.

It is better to secure the cord with threads in the color of the base.

4. It is convenient to pass the cord using a large crochet hook. The end of the cord is also secured with a needle.

Decorating a mesh square with cord

5. This is how you need to decorate all the squares. It’s better to choose a different pattern – it will be more interesting. The colors of the cords should be bright.

7. To make the blanket look elegant, it is good to tie it with a “shell” pattern. The tying begins from the corner of the fabric (single crochet, three loops are skipped, from 4 loops there are eight stitches with two crochets, the pattern is repeated the required number of times).

The baby blanket is ready! For a boy, it is better to choose cool colors for decorative cords.

Openwork knitted blanket for a newborn

Making such a blanket will require great skill from the needlewoman, but the result will exceed all expectations. Yarn calculations are given for a blanket with dimensions of 92 cm x 114 cm.

2. Now you need to add a border to the main fabric where the ribbon will be threaded. The border is made according to the following description:

3. When the main fabric with the border for the decorative ribbon is ready, you can start tying. The binding will be done according to the pattern in the form of beautiful fans, so that the pattern echoes the motif of the main knitting. There should be 7 fans in length and 6 in width, plus one fan in the corners.

A beautiful blanket is ready for discharge!

You can knit an original children's blanket not only with crochet, but also with knitting needles. .

The birth of a child is a big holiday for the whole family. I want this day to remain in my memory for the rest of my life.

A newborn's attire is a touching element of a happy family event

Photos taken upon leaving the maternity hospital always capture a wonderful event with sweet details. There are happy parents, a huge bouquet of flowers, grandparents, doctors, and closest friends. The baby is so tiny that he is shown in the picture only as a three-dimensional bundle. A beautiful blanket, knitted by yourself and tied with a beautiful ribbon - it’s so traditional, but at the same time very touching.

Superstitions associated with a dowry for a baby

Despite the fact that during pregnancy a young woman expecting her first child usually has a lot of free time, especially in the last months, for superstitious reasons she should not engage in sewing or knitting. This sign can be treated differently. Some people laugh at old prejudices, while others are sure that in this case it is better to play it safe than to make a mistake that you may later greatly regret. The fact is that it is believed that if during pregnancy you engage in work related to threads, the child runs the risk of becoming entangled in the umbilical cord.

A blanket knitted by a grandmother will bring love, happiness and good health to the child.

There are a lot of signs associated with the birth of a new person. In particular, this: before the baby is born, parents should not purchase any things for him. Where does the dowry for the baby come from? After all, from the very first days of his life he needs a lot of all kinds of things. The answer is simple - parents do not gain anything, but their own mothers and fathers can collect the dowry secretly from them. This approach is very reasonable, as it unites relatives who are not very well known around the young family. The blanket for discharge from the maternity hospital is usually knitted by one of the grandmothers. As a rule, women at this age already know how to knit, so making something beautiful is not difficult for them.

Yarn should be only the best

Knitting a beautiful blanket to wrap a newborn in is not at all difficult. You just need to decide on a few questions. Firstly, what time of year the baby is expected to appear. Secondly, what gender is he? And thirdly, which pattern will be most suitable.

It is better to knit a blanket for discharge in the summer from cotton, viscose or silk yarn. The baby will not be hot, and the face, covered with a light cover, will not be exposed to the rays of the bright sun and will be protected from both dust and the evil eye.

If the birth is expected in winter, then a warm woolen blanket will come in handy. In yarn stores you can find excellent wool threads designed especially for children. They are particularly lightweight. It is better not to take fluffy ones, such as mohair or angora, as they are fluffy and the lint can cause anxiety to the baby. It is better to make a knitted blanket for discharge from soft cashmere.

Color choice matters

The color can be any. Delicate pastel shades are especially suitable for this occasion. The blanket for a girl is pink, and for a boy it is blue. White bedspreads with a contrasting ribbon threaded along the edge look very nice.

If for some reason the gender of the child is unknown, then white will be the best option.

Crocheted fabric is most suitable for a baby blanket

A crocheted blanket for discharge for newborns (patterns are presented in this article) is preferable to knitting. The fact is that such a blanket can be easily tied if the need arises. There is another plus - such a blanket is practically not deformed, that is, its edges do not curl, as happens with straight fabrics made on knitting needles.

The variety of design options should not be intimidating

A fairly thick winter woolen blanket can be knitted with a simple net, and a silk ribbon threaded around the perimeter. It is important that the pattern is without bumps or other thickenings. They will interfere with the baby, creating discomfort when he lies in a stroller or crib. You can get creative with the patterns if you crochet a summer blanket for newborns for discharge. Patterns for thin canvases are usually quite complex. In addition to the main pattern used for the central part, you need to choose a pattern for the border. This work is for an experienced knitter, as it requires the ability to calculate and adjust repeats.

A crocheted blanket for discharge for newborns, diagrams and photos of the summer and winter versions of which are presented in the article, requires calculation regarding the size of the canvas. As a rule, it is standard - 1 m x 1.2 m. It is inconvenient to wrap a child in a blanket that is too large or too small.

The blanket can be knitted with fancy openwork, or it can be knitted with a simple fillet with a laconic pattern in the form of flowers, hearts or stripes.

The knitting speed depends on the thickness of the threads and the hook number

Thin threads also require a thin hook. This blanket takes a long time to knit. For thick wool, you should use a thicker hook. A skilled knitter will need no more than two weeks to crochet a woolen blanket for newborns for discharge (patterns of a simple fillet of double crochets and two or three chain loops between them are visible in the photo below).

It is better to knit with loose loops - this will make the item more flexible.

Knitting a sample is a mandatory stage of work

Before starting work on the main fabric, you should knit a small sample. It must be measured in length and width, and the numbers written down. After this, the sample must be washed in the same way as you are going to subsequently wash the entire blanket.

The dried and ironed sample must be measured again and, by comparing the initial and final dimensions, the loops must be calculated.

A universal option - from individual motifs

The most common, one might say, universal blanket is made from square motifs. They are knitted in single colors or multi-colored. The connection occurs during the knitting process or after all the elements are ready. Then they can be connected with the same yarn using a hook or sewn with a needle with threads of a matching color. Blankets knitted from threads of two or three colors that match each other are very beautiful. You should not tie voluminous flowers into the squares of the blanket on which the child will lie. Although it looks very beautiful, the inconvenience caused by the thickening from the flowers to the fragile bone skeleton is too great.

Knitting with a single fabric from the center is a good option for a not very experienced craftswoman.

Another version of a universal blanket is a fabric knitted from the middle. The sides of such a canvas are the same length. The knitting process is extremely simple - stitches are added at the corners of each next row. For this reason, the number of columns and air loops becomes larger and larger with distance from the middle. This option is characterized by the fact that the corners of the canvas are somewhat elongated - not rectangular, but sharp, and the straight parts, accordingly, are slightly compressed. For a small blanket made of thick threads, this feature is quite acceptable. With this method of knitting, the choice of patterns is very limited, but you can play with color. In addition, it is somewhat easier to tie a square fabric with an openwork border than a rectangular one. The border can only be tied on two opposite sides, then the blanket will take on a standard size.

Machine washable on the “Wool” cycle or by hand. The spin is only very delicate. Cotton ones can be safely machine washed, and white ones can even be bleached.
