How to change the blade in a razor: user instructions. How often do you need to change cassettes? How long can you shave with one Gillette cassette? Important information about replacing the blade

This is my first review, so if I mess up anything with the design, before showing off your bragging on this site, tell me how to do it right.
When once again the green amphibian of the swampy areas in (the common people TOAD) was strangled to shell out several hundred rubles for a set of blades of 4 pieces, I remembered the Chinese brothers and ordered Gillette Fusion razor blades to try

Everything came in a standard DX gray bubble bag. I don’t show a photo of the package, because in addition to the blades, it was also full of all sorts of small things. Considering the difficult situation with exporting parcels from China, this parcel reached Moscow in 16 days (RA402038945CN), which is a good result. Apparently it was due to the fact that the parcel did not contain anything cutting or battery-powered. Blades don't count, they're not knives.
So, actually the object itself.
The packaging is blister, no different from store packaging (well, except for the fact that there is not a single inscription in Russian)

and the other side

There is no difference with store-bought ones. Unless ours put a sticker with a Russian translation. Unfortunately, the original packaging is not available, so I do not provide photos.
Inside there is a plastic cassette with 4 sections, where the blades actually lie. The blades are removed after snapping into the machine

Close-up of the blade itself. (Don’t worry about the depth of field, this is not a DSLR, this is a phone that takes macro photos)

Now a few photos in comparison with other blades from the manufacturer Gillette, which, unfortunately, are no longer suitable.
Orange is Gillette Fusion Power
The dark blue one is Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power
well, the light blue one is the hero of the review

As you can see from the photo, there are no fundamental differences in the quality of workmanship. The same strip impregnated with gel, the only thing noticeable is the small seams (srues) at the joints of the split injection mold, on the part of the blade that is attached to the machine. On others this is not visible, although the workmanship may be higher, since these are blades of a different price range.
Now let's talk about how to shave. I will not conduct research on the coefficient of friction, and I will not measure the residual height of the hair. I’ll just say one thing: they shave with a bang. I won’t say how much sharpness they have, but at least they’re not stupid.
a couple of photos on the machine

The advantages of the product are low price and high quality.
I didn’t find any cons

And according to tradition... there is no cat, there is a cat)

Every man who uses reusable razors and razors should know for sure how to change the blade in a razor at home without the help of a specialist. Shaving is a procedure that many men carry out daily, so any razor will sooner or later require replacing old blades with new sharp ones. It is the degree of sharpness of the blades that determines the functionality of the razor.

The razor blade can be standard or narrow-profile for a specific machine model. We are talking about a flat metal sheet of ultra-fine and ultra-sharp sharpening. Most often we are talking about double-sided blades, which have special holes inside for fixing in the razor head. Before changing blades, it is important to know all the steps on how to insert a blade into a razor.

The first pressing question from men concerns how often blades need to be changed in order for the shaving process to be as effective as possible and minimally traumatic for the skin of the face. Shaving with dull blades will cause hairs to be pulled out and the top layer of skin to be scraped, and it will take some effort for a man to shave his hair off.

How long do you use one blade?

3-8 timesMore than 8 times

The frequency of blade replacement depends on several factors:

  • the density of the bristles;
  • hair stiffness;
  • shaving frequency for men;
  • thoroughness of each shaving procedure;
  • quality of the razor and blades;
  • correctness of the procedure and much more.

You need to understand that blades from different manufacturers differ in quality, materials of production and degree of sharpness, coating and other characteristics. But on average, experts note that a standard razor blade can withstand about 3-8 stubble shaving procedures. If we talk about high quality blades and from trusted manufacturers, their service life is 6-8 procedures.

For reference! In practice, men manage to use blades much longer, but their functionality and quality of safe shaving will be somewhat lower.

Characteristic signs that it is time to change the blades are situations when, during shaving, the blade stops sliding across the skin, pulling and even tearing out beard hairs. Also, a dull blade, instead of cutting hairs, will scratch and injure the skin, leaving stubble stubble. Much depends on the manufacturer himself, who sets the service life of such a machine part in absentia.

Phased replacement

Experts in this field and men themselves share advice on how to remove a blade from a razor and how to insert a new blade into the razor. The technology may differ slightly in small details, depending on what type of shaving tool the blades will be replaced. These can be reusable machines, T-shaped razors, as well as various electrical devices for depilation.

The instructions for changing blades involve several steps:

  1. The machine needs to be unscrewed and the cover removed from its head.
  2. You need to remove the old dull blade from the head.
  3. All parts of the device will need to be washed in a disinfectant solution and dried naturally or with a towel.
  4. Next, take the new blade out of the packaging and place it in the same way as the old version was placed. All holes in the blade, head and holes must match.
  5. At the end you need to secure the blade; to do this, it is tightened between the head and the mount.

Expert opinion

Alexey Strizhnikov

Barber, expert on men's haircuts

“For T-shaped butterfly razors, the process of replacing blades is much simpler. The razor contains a top head cover that opens into two flaps. To do this, just twist the ring on the handle, remove the old blade, fix the new one and close the doors.”

Experts advise performing such manipulations to replace blades only before the shaving procedure itself. Otherwise, many men store their razor and blades separately when not shaving.

Important information about replacing the blade

Frequently changing blades in a razor will protect a man from several problems at once - irritation and injury to the skin, hair pulling or ingrown hairs. When purchasing blades, it is important to carefully study all the instructions from the manufacturer in order to use shaving products correctly and not affect their service life. Blades can be made of two materials - stainless steel or carbon steel.

Carbon steel can be easily sharpened with your own hands at home, somewhat extending its functionality. At the same time, such steel is more quickly subject to corrosion and rust, while stainless steel retains its impeccable appearance for a long time. Therefore, carbon steel blades are used 1-2 times, while the second option is suitable for 3-8 repetitions of the procedure.

Where should I put the used blade?

After a man decides to remove the used blade from the razor, a reasonable question arises as to where to put it, since the cutting comes from a dangerous cutting object. Most often, blades from popular manufacturers are sold in plastic boxes with a special cut on the back side. This is where unwanted blades should be placed in order to properly dispose of the part.

Experts also recommend another trick - to use a regular piggy bank, which can hold a large number of such parts. Also, many men use matchboxes, which are convenient for placing blades of the same size. Since they are thin and weightless, many blades can fit into one box at once. On sale you can find medical containers designed to store used sharps.

Conclusion

Razor blades are called "feathers" among men. Depending on the manufacturer, manufacturing materials, quality and degree of sharpness, blades will need to be changed once every 3-4 or once every 4-8 shaving procedures. When choosing blades, it is important to take into account what kind of machine a man uses, what type of skin and how he reacts to shaving, as well as the recommendations of specialists and the men themselves.

Many manufacturers of razor tools and machines produce parallel blades that fit perfectly, making it easier for men to choose. The specifics of replacing blades depend directly on the type of machine and the features of its configuration.

I found proof of the bearded joke that typical IT people have beards. There is not a single article about razors on Habré!

I’ll try to fix this, especially since a razor can be a real gadget!

A little about myself.

When the time came, my father gave me a machine with the words: “Now you are an adult.” Since then, I have used machines with replaceable cassettes, although there was a period of disposable ones. But lately, shaving every two days has begun to tire me, and although my beard grew clean and silky, I would still prefer to go shaven for now. That's why I wanted to try an electric razor.
If something interests me, then with great curiosity I will re-read a bunch of material in search of all the subtleties and interesting options. That’s when I discovered the unfortunate lack of articles on Habré, and indeed good materials on the Internet in general. This prompted me to write an article to organize everything I learned.

Once upon a time, the fashion for shaved men's faces began. Since then, barbers and ordinary citizens have not given up the search for the ideal shaving machine.

In the 20th century, King Camp Gillette invented the T-bar machine. Safe - because you couldn't stab yourself. People still shave with these machines. Just like a straight razor, they provide an incredibly clean face, but they also require skill and grooming.

In the 70s, familiar and familiar plastic machines with plastic blades and cartridges appeared. Of course, they beat dangerous and safety razors - inexpensive, easy to use, difficult to cut, easy to change the blade.

But that's not what we're talking about. Already in the first half of the 20th century, electric shavers appeared!

In the 20s, Jacob Schick patented and released the first electric razor.

But this, of course, is not the first razor.
At this point, I will finish the super-short historical excursion and move on to the present.

When I started choosing a razor, the first question that arose before me was what type of shaving mechanism do I need? There are two candidates to choose from - the rotor and the mesh.

In general, it’s worth saying right away that today there are three leaders in the world in the production of razors - Philips, Braun and Panasonic. Moreover, Philips produces only rotary ones, while the Germans and Japanese produce only mesh ones. No, of course, there are other companies, such as Remington (or the Chinese), but I think that only the “big three” are worth considering seriously.

Based on various reviews and articles, I have formed an opinion about the differences in technologies for the consumer. Rotary is quieter, shaves long hair better, and often has longer-lasting knives. A foil shave is cleaner and gentler on the skin.
Most people think that when switching to electricity, it is worth trying a foil first, as it is more pleasant for the skin, and the shaving technique is closer to the machine. Looking ahead, that’s what I did.

At the same time, a lot depends on the type of skin and hair, so you cannot predict what will suit you - a rotor or a mesh, Braun or Panasonic, and indeed whether an electric razor will be suitable. Few can give objective advice, since rarely does anyone have both a rotor and a mesh and use both.

Rotary razors.
Most modern rotary shavers have three floating heads. At the same time someone produces razors and with five! Under the round mesh there is a knife that rotates and shave off any hairs caught in the holes.

Of course, the manufacturer (in this section it is actually equal to Philips) is trying to improve the shaving quality by making especially clever foils, knives and floating head mechanisms, etc (registering patents and trademarks, hiring more and more marketers). Perhaps I will only say about Lift&Cut - this means that the knife has such a structure that it first pulls the hair inward and then cuts it closer to the skin.

All the many razors can be divided into small groups according to the following characteristics.

1) For dry shaving or wet shaving.
2) By series (oldest - 9). This determines the number of improvements applied to the basic motor+knife+body system. At the same time, in an average razor you can find a top-end head for 1/5 the price of a top-end razor, but you have to accept that it will only be for dry shaving, the body is not so futuristic, and more.
3) The presence or absence of a glass for cleaning. To recharge and clean razors, there are special glasses into which you need to pour a special liquid (or insert cartridges with it). They (perhaps) make life more comfortable, but do not in any way affect the quality of the shave. All manufacturers have such stations.

It's quite easy to figure out what's what on the Philips website.
By the way, I think the design of the 9 Series is great.

As far as I know, the shaving technique requires moving the razor in a circle; video instructions are easy to find on YouTube.
An interesting observation - there are a lot of posts on various blogs on the Internet about the new 9 series, it looks very much like an advertising campaign (or it’s really so good that everyone bought it and tried it).

Foil razors
Foil shavers also have more than one foil. The modern minimum is two grids and an intergrid trimmer (three in total), while Panasonica's maximum is 5 grids. The knife moves left and right under the mesh, cutting off hairs caught in the holes. The foil is much thinner than the heads in rotary razors, resulting in a closer shave.

They also have several simple characteristics for classification.

1) Dry and wet shaving. Panasonic's all (or almost all) razors can be used both dry and with foam, while Braun's most can be used dry, and only a few can be used wet.
2) By series. I won't review the younger series. Reviews from owners of older razors about them are poor and reviews from their owners are average. And for yourself, you should take something that won’t disappoint.

With Braun, everything is simple: something like that, then episode 3, episode 5, 7 and 9. There is no episode 9 in Russia. The 3rd series is not particularly praised, the 5th and 7th have the same design of meshes and knives, different from the 3rd. They use holes of different sizes and also... Read the advertisement, it was in vain that the marketers did it in vain (by the way, it’s not very good: “power 10,000 microvibrations" - what is that even like)? It is interesting that in all series only 3 grids are used. There are also razors from the CoolTec series, but, it seems, they use the shaving mechanism of the third series. Each series has a version with a glass and for wet shaving.

Panasonic is more complicated: something like that, then ES-RF31 (41 - with a charging stand), then ES-LF51 (71 - with a glass), and finally ES-LV65 (95 - with a glass). There are other models - older ones or those that were not imported into this country. But it seems like the ES-LV95 is top all over the world. 31/41 have 4 grids, a rigid-floating head and a speed of 10,000 rpm. 51/71 come with the same grids, but the head itself is much more floating (there is a locking option) and the speed is higher - 14,000. 65/95 - already five grids. All of them can shave wet, all have arched foils and some of the foils are ultra-thin.

They say that the sound of the Panasonic is better, but at the same time, the sound of cutting hair can be heard when shaving, which allows you to shave by ear. I confirm that this is true.

It is worth saying that, like almost any thing, all electric shavers have consumables - these are meshes with knives. Braun and Panasonic recommend replacing screens and blades every one to two years approximately. This is necessary not only because the knives become dull, but also because the mesh wears out and can tear. I don’t know about Philips, but they also have recommended timing for knives. Unfortunately, the cost of consumables is quite high. They also complain that Panasonic can be difficult to find.

It is worth considering the cost of cartridges or liquid for cleaning and recharging stations (glasses). Yes, yes, the razor in them is cleaned not just with boiled water, but with a rather expensive solution.

In general, fans of each brand and system have their own themes for holivar (for example):
1) Mesh vs rotor (obviously).
2) Braun vs Panasonic (Panasonic is so bad that it increases the quality with the number of grids; Braun will not make curved grids and the body is gigantic, etc.).
3) The Big Three vs China (why pay more if you can buy an analogue cheaper in the Middle Kingdom?).

Leaving behind the general questions, let's move on to the razor that I got. And this is Panasonic ES-RF31 (on Y.Market). It cost me a little less than 4"000 ₽, now you can also find it for that price. If you choose between RF31 and RF41 - take 31 - you will save 1"000, and I think the charging stand is mostly useless.

For fans of unboxing

Cardboard box with a beveled edge at the top. Inside are instructions, a warranty, a razor with a protective head cap, a cleaning brush, a carrying bag and a charger. In older models you can find a jar of oil, which is recommended to lubricate the screens and knives.

This is a four-grid: two standard meshes, between which there is an intergrid trimmer and an ultra-fine mesh.

Two knives are attached to the razor, two knives are included in the mesh structure (at Braun, all knives are connected to the mesh in one block). The upper part of the head is removable, and after shaving you can easily shake out the stubble. which is what I do. If you shake it into the sink (and this is logical), then turn on the water - the bristles in the razor turn into very fine dust. Every few times I wash the head. It would be possible every time, but I don’t have a shelf where the razor could conveniently dry until the next time. Before the first use, I would recommend treating the mesh and knives with alcohol - after all, it is a personal hygiene item.

The handle is small, and at first the handle and head seemed disproportionate. The head may swing slightly left and right, and the mesh may be pressed inward independently. The handle is made of silver plastic with black corrugated inserts on the front and a slightly soft touch on the back. Fits comfortably in the hand.

Power button with power lock ring (during transportation). Below it is a three-segment charge indicator. By the way, the charge was enough for 3-4 weeks of shaving every two days (the manufacturer says 65 minutes).

The trimmer is retractable and did not seem very convenient to me. Maybe the whiskey can be evened out.

I will hide my experience of switching to an electric razor under a spoiler.

I will describe it in the form of a small diary.

Before this, I shaved with the well-known 5-blade razor. The result with it is predictable and good, especially since I shave against the direction of hair growth (I can’t imagine how it could be otherwise?!). The downside is irritation on the chin, probably caused by micro-cuts.
1 try.
I shaved my one and a half day stubble dry. Mindful of the need to be careful, I left some minor flaws, but overall the razor pleasantly surprised me in that the cleanliness of the shaved areas is quite comparable to a machine (!). Of course, I still got a little irritation, which I eliminated with aftershave cream.
2nd attempt.
Daily stubble, wet shaving. The razor, of course, does not work on wet skin, so, having lubricated it with a thin layer of gel, I tried to achieve maximum closeness of the shave, for which I paid with cuts below the corners of my mouth (not so much unpleasant as unsightly) and irritation. But it is of a different type than with a machine. I think in the first case the reason is that the razor still pulls the hair, and in the second it is a violation of the integrity of the upper layer of the skin.
3rd try
A day and a half of stubble is easily removed dry, and irritation is removed with aftershave.
4 onwards
Over time, the irritation subsided and I stopped using any products. I usually wash my face, wipe it dry and shave after about five minutes (I washed before breakfast, shaved after). It also takes three-day stubble, although not on the first pass. It is important to know the direction of hair growth, but this is easily determined. I cut myself only once (told you above). It’s not for nothing that both manufacturers and users recommend making an opinion on the razor no earlier than after two weeks of shaving. The skin must get used to the new irritant.
The shaving quality is not inferior to the machine. More precisely, it is not inferior with a caveat - stubble appears half a day faster, but you can put up with this and shave more often, especially since it will not cost more in terms of time and labor costs.
And the electric razor, by simplifying the shaving process and adding technology to it, made it more enjoyable, so now I shave more often, and my girlfriend is happy. ;-) And you can go to an interview clean-shaven (if invited)!

At the end of the conversation about razors, I want to say that you don’t have to shave your beard, but trim it. There are trimmers for this (there is not too much choice here). And although they do not relate to the topic of the post, I cannot pass by

Do you not feel smooth on your legs even immediately after shaving? Do you feel stubble in hard-to-reach places? Do you have shaving irritation and cuts? You may be shaving with a dull women's razor. Many women want to know how often to change their razor blades. There's no hard and fast rule here, but there are some guidelines that can help you achieve unrivaled smoothness every time you shave. Check out the following shaving tips and see for yourself!

Just throw it away.

It can be difficult to know when it's time to get rid of your blades and how often you should do it. Watch for dullness, rust, and stuck dirt between the blades. Dull blades increase the likelihood of cuts and skin irritation. They can also reduce the quality of your shave. So if you think it's time to throw away your blades, go ahead and throw them away. Depending on your hair texture and how often you shave, you may want to use the razor five to ten times before saying goodbye.

If you want to get the most out of your blades, it's important to take care of them. Shave with women's shaving gel and rinse your blades regularly. When finished, rinse your razor thoroughly, let it dry and store it in a dry place to protect it from rust. Your blades still need constant replacement, so keep an eye on them for sharpness and signs of wear.

Don't waste money on a razor.

Perhaps the quality of your razor affects the quality of your shave. Many women think that a good razor doesn't matter, but the better the razor, the better the shave. We believe that the best razor for women is one that is designed specifically for them. Venus® razors are designed to fit the beautiful curves of a woman's body, making them easier to use and more effective. If you still experience irritation after shaving and after replacing your razor blades, you may have sensitive skin. Our best razor for sensitive skin is the Venus Embrace Sensitive. It's dermatologist-approved and glides eight times better than our original razor, so your skin gets the care and attention it needs.

Combine.

The best thing about Venus razors is that each of our reusable razors is compatible with our refill cartridges, so you can try different combinations the next time you change blades. There are many refill cartridges available: try our blades with built-in soap pads, razors for sensitive skin or a luxury moisturizing kit. The choice is yours!

To protect your skin and ensure a smooth shave, we recommend following these tips. Shaving, after all, is a personal choice: only you can decide when to change your blades. Do whatever makes you feel great!

Several reasons:

1 . SKIN AND BRUSH TYPE

A young man starting to shave will have a longer blade life than a moss-covered grandfather,

with bristles - wire.

2 . SEASON: Summer or Winter. In winter, stubble and skin are rougher.

3 . Shaving technique. You should shave after a shower, or prepare your skin with warm

and a damp towel. It is necessary to use not a piece of laundry soap, but special products for

shaving that softens stubble.

4 . Original cassettes or cheap fakes. We have not yet learned how to fake it well.

Only the appearance is copied well. A FAKE VEST DOESN'T SHAVE, BUT SHIT!
